Quite often, a 50cc bike will be replaced after one year of use What I mean by that is at age 16 and having passed the CBT, a young rider is eligible to ride a 50 CC moped.. It's not long though until, at age 17, they are able to advance to a more powerful mope, a 125CC.
So, almost inevitably, many 16 year olds buy a moped as soon as the law allows, but they are already preparing for the day when they can trade it in for the larger 125cc scooter.
It stands to reason then, that there is a large pool of 50cc mopeds being sold every year, often in decent condition, as the rider trades up.
In short, it's a buyers market. With so many 50cc mopeds for sale, you need to make sure you get the best deal when it comes to sdelling your machine.
It might be tempting just to lower the price to make the sale, however, here I will suggest a few tips to maximisung the money you make from your machine for as little effort as possible.
The first thing I would recommend is the most obvious. Give your bike a good clean.Perhaps buy some T-Cut or wax to reduce the appearance of any scratches on your 50 CC moped.
Cleaning is a great first step, then move on to the safety aspects of your moped Small 50cc scooters are bought often by mums and dads for their teenage children. In the eyes of these buyers, safety is the most important consideration.
The brakes, oil, lights and tyres should all be checked beforehand. It's likely that the brakes will get the most scrutiny, make sure they are clean and have plenty of life left in them.Change the oil and clean the filter as well.
Lights may well be next on a prospective buyers list of things to check. Make sure they work, ensure that the headlights function in both dipped and full beam.
The first thing many people notice about any new vehicle after the basic body work, is the state of the tyres.
All this is pretty basic stuff, but there are other things that count for a lot.
While a new moped does not need an MOT certificate, you should be prepared by having the service history and log book ready for the potential buyers to examine.
Having a new tax certificate is a very worthwhile investment. The tax on a small 50 cc moped is a very small amount, but to a potential buyer, seeing a bike with an up to date certificate means that they will not have to get one themselves. LIttle touches like this mean a lot, and can make all the difference
Move your scooter to a decent area that lets people walk around it and look at in without obstruction. Make the viewing process as easy as possible. If you have any good quality moped locks that you are prepared to give away with your sale, then present them openly next to the bike itself.
The idea is to make the whole process seems very simple for the buyer, they are buying your moped complete, with no need for them to spend more time and money on it. If they bring a helmet, a quick call to the insurer, and they can just ride away The best result is that they see you moped. decide to buy, and a few minutes later are taking it away, or even riding off with it. If the selling process is well thought out, the new potential owner of your lovely 50cc moped will not need to stop and consider things like tax, safety or maintenance, you will have already removed these problems.
Taking this one step further, consider having the details for a good value insurance broker with you during the sale. It could be possible for the buyer to arrange the deal over the phone and be riding off fully legal on your moped in a matter of minutes. The buyer may well be impressed with you going the "extra mile" with your service and again, this might make all the difference between them buying, or walking away.Don't sell your moped too cheaply just to get a sale. Take a little time to prepare you bike, and look after the people who come to view it, and you should sell more quickly and for a better price.
Best of luck in selling you 50CC scooter, it will be a great feeling stepping up to a larger machine.
